QDS FAQ's
Rinsing the applied QDS away directly on to the Cavity Floor with a low pressure hose or power washer during Reactor Cavity Decon IS the ADVISED method for deconning the cavity; this is the manner that the current US Nuclear Power Plants using QDS for Reactor Cavity Decon conduct the ‘Rinse’ process. The ‘towel’ reference on the package refers to the need to use a towel or rag when using QDS on a tool or small localized area to decon.
The QDS Complete Powder Mix is a radiological decontamination cleaning agent. The QDS family of products is intended for decontamination of radioactive contamination on surfaces, which may include intact human skin, as well as equipment, tools, walls, floors, and other materials. The product’s function is to lift and suspend radioactive contaminants so they can be safely removed; it does not provide any therapeutic or pharmacological effect. QDS products are not marketed or regulated as drugs, are not medical devices, and do not carry a Drug Identification Number (DIN) with Health Canada. As such, there is no DIN applicable for this product. The product is supplied as a non‑toxic decontamination solution/cleaning agent, supported by an SDS and intended for industrial, nuclear, and emergency response decontamination applications rather than medical treatment.
